Year 1 visited the Saddleworth Museum. We learnt about people and events from history that are significant to our local area. Firstly, we learnt all about the Rushcart festival, what it is and why and how it is celebrated both in the past and today. We made our own Skedlock flower sticks and flower hats as worn by the Morris dancers. We even learnt some steps from the Greenfield Morris dance. After lunch, we learnt facts about Ammon Wrigley and about why he is a celebrated person from Saddleworth. We read some unusual words that Ammon used in his works and learnt what they meant. We made badges inspired by the Ammon Wrigley Appreciation Society and we tried our hand at printing some of his art pieces to take home.
A fantastic day was had by all; lots of learning and lots of fun.
