Measuring

Year 1 received a message from the giant telling us that we had lots of measuring to do!

The children measured the giant’s footprints using non-standard units of measure to begin with. The children chose to measure using cubes, counters, pencils and glue sticks etc.

We then worked using standard units of measure. We used a ruler to measure the giant’s footprints and also other objects in our classroom. We decided which objects were longer, shorter or the same length as the giant’s footprint. We used the language of ‘widest’ and ‘narrowest’ and some of us explored this concept when measuring objects.
