Today is World Mental Health Day, so to promote how important our mental wellbeing is, we’ve taken part in some mindfulness activities, including yoga and breathing exercises. We’ve also talked about how we can look after one another to encourage better mental health.

Yesterday saw Reception take part in National Fitness day. They worked super hard to strengthen their muscles by following an online yoga video. Throughout the day, Reception also took part in ten minute blast exercises. The showed excellent listening skills and enjoying being physical. WELL DONE RECEPTION!
Our second full week in Reception has been extremely busy. But to celebrate our upcoming Harvest Festival we have been learning all about the importance of Harvest and what it means to us. We’ve been drawing fruit to go in our ‘Harvest Basket’ using pastels.
This week as part of Humanities Week, Reception have been researching 🇿🇦 South Africa 🇿🇦 We’ve created our own Ndebele Houses, looked at the different languages used and also learnt all about Nelson Mandela and how his actions shaped South Africa’s future.

Yesterday, as we welcomed our new arrivals, we learnt all about their life cycle. In 4 teams we created our own life cycle of the chicken. The children worked brilliantly together and managed to sound out and write some fantastic vocabulary on their creations.

Reception prepared our potato grow bags this week in Forest Fun. Whilst some planted our potatoes, others investigated mini beasts under bark and rocks, looking out for different insects they could recognise, then researching those they didn’t. The class worked brilliantly as a team and were so enthusiastic.

We looked at different breeds of dinosaurs and their skeletons – Pterodactyls, Tryceratops, Brachiosaurus and T-Rex. We then created our own using art straws. We discussed the different bones we might need and had a go at making our dinosaurs skull.
Reception hosted a very special assembly last week in honour of Chinese New Year. We found out lots about how The Year of The Pig will be celebrated and we discovered which animal represented our own birth year. We then shared what we’d learnt with the rest of the school.

Using the expedition app on our iPads we took a trek through the Arctic yesterday! We discovered lots of different animals, walked through glaciers and travelled on a snow mobil. The children loved finding out what the ‘real’ Arctic was like and learnt lots more in the process.

Reception have worked extremely hard throughout today to create beautiful drawings and paintings to honour Remembrance Day. We’ve also created 100 Poppies to commemorate 100 years since WW1 ended. Reception have enjoyed their first session of Bikeability. They have learnt how to safely navigate a balance bike over ramps, through cones and around bends. They’ve all shown they are brilliant Tryatops and have shown a great attitude to a new skill.
This afternoon we released our newly emerged Butterflies out into the schools peace garden. The children have watched them grow from tiny eggs to caterpillars to cocoons. Everyone got a closer look before we let them go. 🦋
Our reception class spent the day yesterday exploring nature and learning how plants grow. They’ve managed to take some beautiful photographs from around the school grounds and have enjoyed taking their own photos.
