We looked at different breeds of dinosaurs and their skeletons – Pterodactyls, Tryceratops, Brachiosaurus and T-Rex. We then created our own using art straws. We discussed the different bones we might need and had a go at making our dinosaurs skull.
Reception hosted a very special assembly last week in honour of Chinese New Year. We found out lots about how The Year of The Pig will be celebrated and we discovered which animal represented our own birth year. We then shared what we’d learnt with the rest of the school.

‘What time is it Mr Wolf?’ Reception had a lesson in the snow this morning. We continued our maths learning on time by playing What Time is it Mr Wolf? Mr Wolf shouted a time and each child had to show that time on their own clock correctly before moving forward in the snow.

Using the expedition app on our iPads we took a trek through the Arctic yesterday! We discovered lots of different animals, walked through glaciers and travelled on a snow mobil. The children loved finding out what the ‘real’ Arctic was like and learnt lots more in the process.

Reception have worked extremely hard throughout today to create beautiful drawings and paintings to honour Remembrance Day. We’ve also created 100 Poppies to commemorate 100 years since WW1 ended. We’re extremely proud of the enthusiasm, interest and sensitivity the children have shown whilst doing these activities. Well done Reception!
We had a fantastic day on Wednesday at Smithills Farm. The children got the opportunity to meet, feed and handle lots of animals and learnt lots about how a farm is ran, including how cows are milked. Reception have enjoyed their first session of Bikeability. They have learnt how to safely navigate a balance bike over ramps, through cones and around bends. They’ve all shown they are brilliant Tryatops and have shown a great attitude to a new skill.
This afternoon we released our newly emerged Butterflies out into the schools peace garden. The children have watched them grow from tiny eggs to caterpillars to cocoons. Everyone got a closer look before we let them go. 🦋
Our reception class spent the day yesterday exploring nature and learning how plants grow. They’ve managed to take some beautiful photographs from around the school grounds and have enjoyed taking their own photos.
